Driving Local Economic Development Through Urban Regeneration
District-level strategies — from neighbourhood initiatives to sub-city projects — are key to building sustainable, inclusive, and innovative cities. This research highlights the critical factors that make local economic development (LED) successful in urban regeneration, including:
- Sustainability and energy efficiency
- Digital technologies and innovation
- Inclusive planning and community engagement
- Strengthening local government capacity
The study draws on insights from 13 European city experts working on projects such as building retrofits, urban space upgrades, energy communities, and digital solutions.
Findings show that context matters: tailoring strategies to neighbourhood needs and fostering collaboration between local governments, citizens, and external partners are essential to equitable growth.
👉 The message is clear: localised, collaborative, and context-specific approaches are the foundation of thriving, resilient, and fair urban economies.
